Maroon House


At Maroon  House,  we  are  able to  care  for  and  support all the needs  of a maximum of  five young people, aged 11-17 years old, enabling us to guarantee that each young person receives the focus and attention they require  to  ensure  their  needs  are  met to  the  highest  of  standards,  as  well  as  maintain  the  closeness  and shared  experience  of  a  family  environment.  We can accommodate both girls and boys  with  a  variety  of complex  emotional,  behavioural and  social  difficulties  and  we  are  able  to  work  with  and support  young people who have a history of disrupted attachments and placements ,and whose behaviour has been difficult to manage in other settings.

We offer a trauma-informed model of care, support and accommodation over fifty-two weeks of the year. We believe that we can offer the best care to children and young people here, within a backdrop and mindset that is nurturing and therapeutic, and that will facilitate the greatest positive change when young people are placed with us for the medium to long term. We expect that many of the children will present with a variety of behavioural and psychological challenges and Maroon House will offer a safe and emotionally containing environment in which they can begin or continue to safely explore what they have experienced with the aim of restorative resolution.  The support here will include high quality accommodation,  safety, therapeutic model of care, educational support and opportunities for social integration. We set high expectations for ourselves and for the young people and provide genuine care and commitment to achieve the best outcomes.

We believe the key to meeting the complex needs of young people here is through offering high quality, comprehensive and individually tailored care packages. The young people will have the opportunity to identify particular recreational, sport or art preferences. We will identify activities they may want to pursue individually, supported by ourselves, and activities that can be offered to the group. Provision will be made for on and off-site recreational activities throughout the year. The young people  will  experience travel abroad and within the UK each year around the school calendar with the agreement of the placing authority and parents/carers (where appropriate).

Maroon House will ensure that each young person has a carefully designed educational programme designed to  meet her/his specific  needs  with  regard  to  their  academic  attainment. This maybe to supplement an EHCP, Statement of special educational needs and/or to identify any other barriers to learning. (a) How accommodation has been adapted to the needs of children: Maroon House is decorated to a high standard and equipped with the needs of the children and young people in mind. Internally, each young person has their own room they can adapt and personalise. There is a choice of other rooms to use for different activities including recreation, games, study, and quiet time. Unfortunately, we are unable to meet the needs of a wheelchair user as all our bedrooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors.

(b) The age range, number, and sex of children for whom it is intended that accommodation is to be provided: Maroon House can accommodate a maximum of five children/young people, of either gender. The age range is 11–17-Year-Olds.

(c) The type of accommodation, including sleeping accommodation: The ground floor consists of a comfortable living room, staff office and a modern open plan kitchen/dining area which backs on to a beautiful south facing garden that has a summer house as well as a study/games room. The first floor consists of four bedrooms and a bathroom while the second floor accommodates a further two bedrooms with an additional bathroom.

Selma House is committed to providing our young people with outstanding quality facilities and services in all aspects of their care. Many of our young people will have limited experience of their needs being consistently prioritised and we believe through our approach of ensuring that each young person has their needs consistently met, voices heard, feelings considered and being valued, we will begin to reveal to them their inherent value. 

Selma House is a five-bedroom house located in the leafy suburb of Raynes Park, Southwest London. The house is decorated to an extremely high standard throughout, with spacious communal areas. There is an outhouse/games room in the garden, which can be used as a quiet space for young people to meet with family or professionals or simply to have a moment of privacy without having to leave the premises. We can accommodate up to four young people with each having their own bedroom (which they can personalise); there are two family bathrooms and a toilet on the ground floor. Selma House provides each young person with the space they require, whilst creating a comfortable and homely environment.

The ground floor consists of a comfortable living room; dining room and kitchen. There is also a small conservatory that backs on to a beautiful garden that has a recently added summerhouse. There is a downstairs toilets that leads off the conservatory. The first floor consists of four bedrooms and a bathroom while the second floor accommodates a further bedroom with an additional bathroom.  

An exceptional four bedroom semi-detached family house offering a wealth of living and entertainment space throughout with off street parking, Selma House is set over three floors. Situated in Raynes Park, Southwest London, Selma House is 0.2 miles walk to Raynes Park British Rail Station and 1.3 miles to Wimbledon Station. Within a mile of the house there are a vast number of amenities and services to choose from including: great transport links, several good quality schools, healthcare facilities, food stores, places of worship, sports clubs (including the famous All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club) and well served recreational parks. Selma House has developed a comprehensive risk assessment of the immediate local area to ensure the suitability of our location. This location assessment has been done in consultation with a variety of professional bodies including the London Borough of Merton, the local police, the police department responsible for local investigations regarding child sexual exploitation (CSE) as well as taking into consideration current statistics about the area. A copy of this risk assessment will be made available to all referrers and can also be provided on request
