Mission

Children of the Mangrove is a social movement, striving to deliver the best quality of support and care to young people at different stages of their lives. At Children of the Mangrove, we inherently believe that the success of a society should be underpinned by how it supports its most vulnerable. We aim to become part of the fabric of the communities we work in, supporting both staff and young people we work with to achieve their full potential and become positive active members of the wider community.

Mangroves are eco systems which thrive and sustain life in the harshest environments; they take root on the banks of rivers that are not conducive to most forms of life growing. Mangrove roots have a unique filter system and adapt to low oxygen conditions, which allows them to grow on the muddy banks of salt water seas and rivers. They then grow to create shelter, nutrients and a thriving natural economy for the environment around them.

In this vein, Children of the Mangrove projects strive to create spaces which allow and support those within those environments to grow and thrive. From the depths of social, emotional and financial deprivation, we uncover the value and potential in all the people we work with by filtering out these negative narratives and nourishing each other with the skills to flourish in life. We see the Mangrove community as a Hub for life along the often neglected banks of the mainstream rivers, and it is with this ethos, that our projects grow alongside each other.

‘Under the Leadership and Directorship of Knowlton Crichlow and Jonathan Charles-Brady, Children of the Mangrove aims to address the contemporary needs and challenges faced within the social care sector. With a combined experience of over 30 years with the field, the organisation has become a platform for an expression of their passion in what they do, and a vehicle to empower their team in delivering this vision.’
